2021 Speakers' Biography

Angela Curry

Angela grew up in a deeply Baptist household, but converted to Catholicism 5 years ago. A married mother of 3 who also works as chief legal officer for a faith based organization, Angela offers a unique perspective of what it means to embrace the Church from the outside in.

Sr. John Catherine

Sister John Catherine Kennedy, O.P. is a native of Mount Vision, New York. She grew up in a big Catholic family, working for her dad in his gardens and greenhouses.  She graduated from the Catholic University of America, with a B.A. in History and Secondary Education in 1999 and began teaching. In 2000, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Saint Cecilia, professing final vows in 2007. She earned post-baccalaureate licensure in education from Aquinas College and studied in the Catholic Studies Program at the University of St. Thomas. She studied History at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, earning an M.A. in 2010 and a Ph.D. in 2019. During her years in East Tennessee, she taught at Knoxville Catholic High School. She currently teaches at Aquinas College and at St. Cecilia Academy here in Nashville

Joan Watson

Joan Watson was born and raised in Lafayette, Indiana, but college and graduate school took her to Virginia, Ohio, and Rome. After graduating from Christendom College with a B.A. in History and Franciscan University with a M.A. in Theology, she moved to Nashville, Tennessee to be part of the explosion of Catholic culture in the middle of the Bible Belt.

She has been blessed to work for Dr. Scott Hahn at the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology and the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia at Aquinas College. She is presently the Director of Adult Formation for the Diocese of Nashville. She also serves as the Associate Editor of Integrated Catholic Life.

When she’s not testing the culinary exploits of new restaurants or catching up on the latest BBC miniseries, she’s FaceTiming with her eight nephews and nieces and enjoying her role as coolest aunt. She likes gelato, bourbon, and the color orange.


Joan Watson is the Director of Faith Formation for the Diocese of Nashville. In her spare time, she is also writes for and is the Associate Editor of Integrated Catholic Life (www.integratedcatholiclife.org). You can find her weekly hosting the series 3 Minute Theology on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram and cohosting The Catholic Traveler Podcast. She loves gelato, the color orange, and playing trivia.
